Florida boy assaulted by adults for doing ‘wheelies’ on bike, prime perpetrator gets ‘special treatment’ from police

A man has been arrested in Brevard County, Florida, after he was filmed physically assaulting a literal child along with other adults all because the young boy was apparently doing “wheelies” on an e-bike.

Mitchell Schuman, a resident of the community of Lotus was arrested by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and charged with battery. Two videos of the incident, which have been shared by local outlet bocanewsnow appear to show Schuman throwing a water bottle at the young boy who was already recording. He then snatches the boy’s phone while the teen demands he give it back.

A video taken by somebody else shows other adults on the scene, physically restraining the boy while he can still be heard asking for his phone back. The confrontation continues for several minutes as the child claims he needs to call his dad and yet the adults refuse to return his phone to him, actively preventing him from getting his device from Schuman.

At one point he tries to explain that the adult pushed him off his bike and that he has it on video but someone (possibly Schuman) can be heard saying “that’s made up.” Others can be heard complaining about the child doing wheelies and claiming that kids in the area “have no respect.”

Adults behaving like children

Despite the adults in the video thinking they have the moral high ground, they are living proof that wisdom does not necessarily come with age. In fact, the whole incident comes across like playground bullies on a powertrip. Despite one of the women warning the boy “there is something called juvie,” it seems the adults were the ones who ended up facing the long arm of the law.

TikToker Jay Megan covered the incident in a now viral video in which she claimed local law enforcement plan on letting the adults off with a slap on the wrist.

Regardless, the boy’s video proved that he was indeed pushed off his bike and Mitchell Schuman was charged but only given a “notice to appear,” he wasn’t placed in handcuffs or taken to jail. Commenters on TikTok noted that this seemed like “special treatment” as it wasn’t normal procedure. As for the the young boy, who the adults were so convinced was going to be thrown in juvie, he was not criminally charged at all.

While no other arrests have been made so far the authorities are investigating and there is interest in speaking to the other people involved. In the comments underneath Megan’s video many said that the boy’s parents should consider suing the adults.
