Florence Pugh chose custom Vivienne Westwood for the New York premiere of East of Eden, arriving at The Plaza Hotel on September 30 in a chartreuse satin corset gown that stood out even among a press tour full of statement dresses. The premiere came hours before the Netflix limited series began streaming on October 1.
The gown's upper half did the talking. Reports from the carpet describe a bright yellow-green satin top with sculptural puffed shoulders that rose around the neckline, finished with dramatic balloon sleeves. Underneath sat a corset bodice with a deep plunging neckline and a black zip down the centre, covered in dark beaded embroidery that resembled branches against the acid-bright fabric. The skirt was a softer counterpoint, a sleek, silvery gray silk that kept the silhouette from tipping into costume.
