Recent flooding in northern Thailand has caused widespread evacuations, including at the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai. The park, home to around 3,000 rescued animals, faced rising waters due to heavy rainfall and the effects of Typhoon Yagi.
The park's residents, which include 125 elephants, 800 dogs, 2,500 cats, 200 rabbits, and 200 cows, were in danger as floodwaters swept through the area. A video posted online captured the harrowing scene of elephants navigating through muddy waters to reach higher ground.
While three elephants managed to move through the floodwaters with relative ease, a fourth elephant, who is blind, struggled to keep up. The video showed the other elephants calling out to guide their blind companion to safety.
Efforts to evacuate more animals from the park were hindered by the high water levels, posing a challenge to the rescue operations. With more rain forecasted in the region, the situation remains precarious for both humans and animals affected by the flooding.
