More than 400,000 rai of farmland and residential areas in 8 northeastern provinces along the Chi and Mun river basins are flooded, satellite data shows.

Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (Gistda) photos released on Wednesday showed 410,328 rai of land inundated in eight provinces along the two river basins.

Si Sa Ket had the most flooded area with 112,676 rai, followed by Surin 109,747 rai, Roi Et 72,757 rai, Yasothon 36,052 rai, Kalasin 29,722 rai,  Ubon Ratchathani 27,252 rai, Maha Sarakham 18,918 rai and Amnat Charoen 3,204 rai.

Of the affected areas, paddy fields totalling 240,716 rai were flooded. Low-lying areas along the two river basins and their tributaries, residential areas and some transportation routes were also under water.

Gistda said it had provided its satellite data to major agencies responsible for flood management for use in flood prevention and situation evaluation.
