Flooding hits parts of Northern Ireland amid Met Office weather warning

Parts of Northern Ireland have been experiencing flooding amid a weather warning from the Met Office.

The yellow warning for heavy rain is in place from 6am until midnight on Monday and is likely to cause some disruption to travel during the day.

The Met Office said on Sunday that ‘heavy rain may cause some flooding and disruption to travel during Monday’.

The rain will continue for much of today and into tonight before clearing.

In Derry, flooding has been reported along the lower end of Trench Road with sandbags in place along part of the route.

TrafficwatchNI have also advised caution to motorists today given the weather conditions.

They said: “#CoDown - Drivers are urged to exercise extra care on the roads this morning due to the wet weather conditions. A number of areas along the A1 carriageway are impacted by standing water and motorists should drive with particular caution along the route”.
