Flood alerts issued across parts of Scotland ahead of heavy rain

SCOTS are being warned to prepare for flooding across parts of the country with heavy rain forecast for this evening.

The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) has issued five flood alerts and one flood warning.

The flood warning is for residents living between Innerpeffray and Bridge of Earn in Tayside, with those living near the River Earn being warned to remain vigilant as water levels are expected to peak this afternoon.

Flood alerts have also been issued for the wider regions of Tayside, Ayrshire and Arran, Dumfries and Galloway, the Borders and West Central Scotland.

The Met Office forecast for Scotland states that heavy showers are to be expected tonight with severe gales developing in north west Scotland.

Scots can check whether their area is at risk of flooding on the SEPA website, with the environmental protection agency encouraging residents to know who to call in the event of disruption caused by flooding.

Depending on the types of issues caused this could be SEPA, Scottish Water or the relevant local authority.

Currently, SEPA has not issued any severe flood warnings in Scotland.
