Tasmanians are being warned of possible renewed flooding with a fresh rainband tipped to hit the already drenched northern half of the state.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Wednesday toured the flood-affected northwest towns of Latrobe and Deloraine and spoke with residents.
The bleak clean-up continues after some 100 properties, plus road and bridges, were damaged following record breaking rainfall late last week.
"My heart goes out to the communities who have been impacted," Mr Albanese told reporters.
He thanked emergency services personnel and volunteers for their efforts. Several people had to be rescued after getting stuck on their properties or in cars due to rising floodwaters.
"At the worst of times, we always see the best of the Australian character," Mr Albanese said.
"It was quite inspirational to see what people have done in those fantastic local communities here in Tasmania."
The State Emergency Service is urging communities to stay alert with wet weather developing from Friday.
Rain is forecast across the northern half of the state, with showers and possible thunderstorms predicted across the east on Saturday.
"With soils and river catchments still saturated from last week, further rainfall may lead to renewed levels of flooding in some areas," SES acting director Leon Smith said.
"While winds are forecast to be below damaging level, with soils saturated, trees are more likely to fall due to the effect of high winds.
"I encourage the community to keep up-to-date with the weather warnings."
