Flip Out closing: 'Sadness' as popular indoor play centre to shut

A popular indoor play centre has announced it is shutting for good next month. Flip Out, in Longwell Green, will shut in May to allow for "redevelopment" of the area to get underway.

Flip Out, which is popular with families thanks to its soft play and inflatable obstacle course, announced the news on Facebook today (April 27.) The venue says it is closing as a result of a compulsory purchase order.

It said on Facebook: "ATTENTION. Due to the redevelopment of the area and a compulsory purchase order, we are sadly closing our doors on the 23rd May 2022.

"To thank you for your support over the years, we'd like to offer our guests 20% off any visits from now until 23rd May using the code BRISTOL20 when booking."

More than 100 people commented under the most. One Mum wrote: "Oh no, so sad to hear this! Glad my daughter will get to celebrate her birthday with you just before you close. I really hope you are able to relocate somewhere in Bristol!"

Another said: "Well there goes are fun." And another fan wrote: "We need to go one last time."

The news will come as a shock to families and residents of the area, many of whom enjoy using the soft play and book it for kids' parties. Its closure comes after it underwent a £400,000 refurbishment, which included a new ninja assault course.

In February last year, Bristol Live reported on plans to revamp the "deteriorating" industrial estate. Early proposals for the site near Marks and Spencer include at least two new restaurants, potentially a new hotel, and space for employment and indoor sports.

An outline planning application submitted to South Gloucestershire Council reads: "The development site is occupied by buildings of deteriorating quality set along a spur road extension of Aldermoor Way.

"The overall appearance and image of the site is poor; there is much scope for physical improvement in terms of visual amenity, access and consumer usability."
