PHUKET: Floodwater reached only the private-jet parking area at Phuket airport and commercial flights were continuing as normal on Friday, although nearby roads were flooded.
Airport general manager Monchai Tanode said the parking area for private jets in the northern part of the airport was flooded on Friday morning.
He said flooding occurred from 4am to 7am, when the heavy rainfall was measured at 250 millimetres.
Floodwater also affected some local buildings, including the fire station parking building at Phuket airport. The water was about five centimetres deep, but drained off in about a hour.
The situation inside the airport was normal, but air travellers should head for the airport early because sections of main roads to the airport were flooded, causing traffic congestion, Mr Monchai said.
