Flights to Glasgow Airport forced to divert after suspected drone sighting

Flights into Glasgow Airport were diverted today after suspected drone was seen in the area.

Two aircrafts made the decision to divert to airports in Edinburgh and Prestwick following the possible sighting on Friday. Police Scotland and Glasgow Airport's airfield team were deployed to the area where the sighting occurred, but there was no evidence when they arrived.

One Emirates flight from Dubai diverted to Glasgow Prestwick while the British Airways Gatwick service diverted to Edinburgh Airport. Both are refuelling before they will return to Glasgow. A spokesman for Glasgow Airport confirmed the incident and stressed that operating drones near an airport is both illegal and "incredibly dangerous".
