Flight Club is opening its first social darts venue in Wales in Cardiff.
The expanding bar and leisure business, which through technology allows up to 12 people to play darts at once, has signed up to 16,327 sq ft of space at 3-4 St Mary Street - including a 4,000 sq ft roof terrace - with landlord of the property in real estate investment, development and asset management company Thackeray.
The venue will house 13 oches with three bars. Flight Club’s version of the traditional game involves a series of multiplayer games using its own patented dart tracking technology.
It will be its 10th venue in the UK and its largest outside of London. It also has venues in the US and Australia. It has entered into a 25-lease with Thackeray for the vacant building in Cardiff. It will have capacity for 500.
An opening date for the venue has yet to be confirmed.
Chief executive Steve Moore, who co-founded Flight Club alongside Paul Barham, said: “We’re thrilled at the news that the licensing application has been granted for Flight Club Cardiff.
"Whenever we look to join a new neighbourhood, we always work closely with the community to ensure that we’re adding to it in the best way possible, and we look forward to maintaining these positive relationships moving forwards. There’s a lot of work to be done, but we can’t wait to announce our opening date and share more of what we’ve got planned for Flight Club Cardiff in the coming months”.
Giles Hoare, investment director of Thackeray Group, said: “Flight Club’s choice of 3-4 St Mary Street reflects its prime position in the city’s leisure and retail core and it will be a fantastic addition to Cardiff’s leisure offering."
Thackeray was advised by EJ Hales and Davis Coffer Lyons; Flight Club was advised by The Leisure Partnership.
The new letting follows the recent announcement that Thackeray Group, owned by Brett Palos and Antony Alberti, has acquired the landmark Howells Building in the centre of Cardiff with plans to carry out a repositioning of the building as a mixed-use destination.
The social darts concept was born in a garden shed by Mr Barham and Mr Moore and officially launched in Shoreditch in 2015.
