A flight attendant has warned holidaymakers to 'always' keep their curtains closed in hotel rooms as they're heading out to do some exploring.
Miguel Muñoz, a former member of cabin crew, revealed that the simple act of leaving the curtains a certain way could actually prove to be an easy way to stay safe when travelling abroad.
He urged holidaymakers to "always keep the curtains closed" even when they're not in their room, reports the Express.
He explained: "Have you ever noticed when you first walk into your hotel room that the curtains are open? That’s a tell tale sign that the room is empty."
So if you keep your curtains closed, someone entering the room may think there is another person already there - and it may deter potential thieves.
Members of cabin crew regularly stay in hotel rooms while travelling as part of their job, and it's not the first time that a flight attendant has shared how they keep themselves safe while somewhere new.
Recently American cabin crew member Cici warned others to always keep a small towel by the room door as an extra security measure, sharing a clever hack to use it as an extra safety latch to make the door harder to open.
She also admitted that she always travels with a 'personal safety alarm', recommending that people opt for ones making loud noises and flashing bright lights to deter any intruders.
It's not just security hacks that airline workers have previously shared with the public.
One flight attendant caused a stir when she revealed she always leaves a shoe in her room's safe, to stop herself from forgetting valuables.
It was one of many quick and easy hacks which Esther, a member of cabin crew from Dutch airline KLM, shared with her TikTok followers.
Another tip she offered involved using a clothes hanger to clip the hotel curtains together at night, so you're not woken up by the bright light in the morning, and using shower caps as shoe covers so that when you pack your suitcase for the way home, you won't get the rest of your items covered in dirt.
Esther also suggested using "your USB cable and charge your devices in the TV" if you don't have a world travel plug or if the one you have doesn't work.
