A cabin crew worker has revealed a simple tip for travelling that involves putting one shoe in your hotel safe, claiming it's a "game-changer".
Esther works for Dutch airline KLM and has plenty of experience staying in hotels all over the world. According to her, there are a couple of things you should do every time to ensure that your stay runs smoothly, which she has made a helpful TikTok about.
Something that might seem obvious is keeping your valuables, such as your passport, locked away in the hotel safe. But a lot of people apparently don't do this, as they're concerned about forgetting about it when they check out.
But Esther's shoe tip reduces the risk of you departing from the hotel without forgetting to check the safe.
"Worried about forgetting something from your locker? Put your heel or shoe in it and you won't forget it!" she said.
The Express reports the flight attendant always puts a heel in the safe because she would never leave the room without them as she needs them for work.
If you're carrying more than one pair of shoes, travellers can place whatever item they think they wouldn't leave without in the safe, such as their jacket or coat.
Another tip that Esther suggested is to use a clothes hanger to clip the hotel curtains together at night, so you're not awakened by the bright light in the morning.
In the TikTok's comments, people said this hack was "really cool" and "smart", with many saying they'd be trying this next time they stayed at a hotel.
Esther's next tip is to use the shower cap as a "cover over your shoes". This is a very useful way to protect the clothes from dirty shoes when you pack the suitcase again, especially if you don't have any plastic bags with you - and it can also be used to cover the remote control, which she said can be "very dirty."
She also suggested using "your USB cable and charge your devices in the TV" if you don't have a world travel plug or if the one you have doesn't work.
Finally, she said that there is no need to use the room key for your electricity and instead, guests "can also use any other card for this".
Flight attendant Miguel Muñoz previously spoke with Express.co.uk and shared some of his favourite hotel hacks.
He said he never goes to a hotel without his own "mug, salt and pepper, my own bamboo cutlery set and coffee sachets" as "some hotels don't give you any".
"You don't want to get up in the morning, realise you missed breakfast and not have any coffee in the room!"
Miguel added: "I would always wear the biggest jacket or jumper for travelling so it doesn't take up space in my suitcase.
"I fold the T-shirts in squares. And the trousers, I roll them. If you pack trainers or shoes, place all your socks or underwear inside.
"Also, anything fragile you should place inside the shoes. Both to protect them and to save space."
