Fleur East said being part of Eurovision in Liverpool is a “pinch me” moment for her.
Speaking to the ECHO at the top of the Radio City Tower, Fleur was excited ahead of her performance at EuroVillage on the Pier Head tomorrow. The musician and presenter said: “I watched Eurovision as a kid and we always made a big deal about it. I have so many fond memories of it. Now, not only to be here in Liverpool but involved in the making of it, it’s really cool.”
Fleur is also presenting a BBC One show tomorrow night called Everyone’s a Winner, which reveals the top 20 Eurovision songs that did not win the contest. Ahead of presenting the Hits Radio Breakfast Show live from the tower, she is delighted to see that Liverpool has made such a big effort for the contest.

Fleur said: “It’s so exciting to be in Liverpool while Eurovision is going on. You can feel the buzz, the atmosphere. As soon as I got off the train, you could see people in costumes, wearing Eurovision merch, the signs everywhere, the billboards, it’s so exciting.”
Fleur made her breakthrough on The X Factor, which she featured on twice in 2005 and 2014. She has gone on to appear in numerous reality TV shows, such as Strictly Come Dancing and I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!
However, music remains her biggest passion. She said: “I always knew I wanted to sing. My parents were big lovers of music, music was in the house every single day.”
She added: “I didn’t know how I was going to make it, or if I was going to make it, but somehow I knew music would be a big part of my life."
Fleur often reflects on her achievements with her husband, fashion designer Marcel Badiane-Robin. She said: “Me and my husband have been together for 13 years. He saw me trying to get into the industry before anything happened. We pinch ourselves with what I’ve done, and being in Liverpool for Eurovision is a ‘pinch me’ moment.”
Fleur will also be in Liverpool for the sell-out Radio City Hits Live show, which she will co-host at the M&S Bank Arena later this month. Artists such as Zara Larsson, Tom Grennan and the UK’s Eurovision entry Mae Muller will be performing.
Fleur said: “I cannot wait for Hits Live. It’s in my calendar from the start of the year. You get all your favourite artists together - eight for the price of one!”
It’s not the first time Fleur has attended Hits Live, and she said she may even be roped in to perform like in previous years. But this won’t dampen her excitement for the show.
She said: “I have so many fond memories of the arena from previous Hits Live. It’s going to be amazing.”
On Mae Muller, Fleur has caught a sneak peak of her Eurovision performance. She said: “I’ve seen clips of her in rehearsal and the screens and graphics look incredible. The performance looks really good.”
She added: “Hits Live will obviously be after Eurovision. At Hits Live, we’ll have a slice of Eurovision with Mae.”
Fleur will be at EuroVillage tomorrow. She will be hosting Radio City Hits Live at the M&S Bank Arena on May 26.
