Five stranded travellers have been rescued from remote north-west Queensland after a woman walked 35 kilometres through flooded dirt roads to find help.
The group is believed to have been travelling from Mount Isa to the Lake Nash cattle station in the Northern Territory.
Their car broke down on the waterlogged dirt road on Christmas Eve and they were reported missing when they did not arrive at Lake Nash as expected.
One of the travellers set off on foot towards their destination to find help, but she was cut off by floodwaters.
Early Boxing Day afternoon, police sent a rescue helicopter to scour the area for the group.
The crew spotted the woman while searching along the road, and she directed them to where the car had broken down.
Meanwhile, the rest of the group had also set off towards Lake Nash.
They were found shortly after, waiting near another abandoned vehicle, surrounded by floodwater, on a bogged road.
All five were flown safely to Lake Nash.
