Chicago, the longest-running musical on Broadway, is bringing adultery, murder, corruption, greed and all that jazz to the Canberra Theatre. In the 1920s, the incarcerated Velma Kelly (Zoë Ventoura) and Roxie Hart (Lucy Maunder) are vying for the services of slick lawyer Billy Flynn (Anthony Warlow) in the hope he'll help them beat charges of murder. Peter Rowsthorn plays Roxie's loving but gullible husband Amos and Asabi Goodman is the rapacious Matron "Mama'" Morton. Sanaz Toossi's Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy English has Marlan teaching an adult class to speak English in a small classroom in Iran. They all have their own relationships to this new language - for some it means opportunities abroad, for others a way to grow closer to grandchildren. Whatever their motives, these strangers will find tensions flaring, connections forming and unspoken truths emerging as they hurtle towards their final exam. The National Capital Orchestra will be making its Snow Concert Hall debut with Heroes and Villains, a concert of movie music conducted by Louis Sharpe. From the sweeping John Williams melodies of Star Wars and the epic grandeur of Howard Shore's music for The Lord of the Rings, to the thrilling heroics of Eric Coates's The Dam Busters and the enchanting charm of Harry Potter, also by Williams this concert promises to be a journey through some of the most beloved soundtracks of all time. Discovering Ancient Egypt is in its final week at the National Museum of Australia, ending on Sunday.The exhibition features hundreds of objects from the collection of the Dutch National Museum of Antiquities (Rijksmuseum van Oudheden). See ornate sculptures, rare Book of the Dead scrolls and exquisite jewellery, along with 10 coffins, which reveal insights into the everyday life and culture of the ancient Egyptians, and mummies.
