Five teenagers have been arrested and two charged after a pursuit in the Hunter Valley on Saturday.
Police were called after reports of two cars being driven dangerously at a rest stop off the New England Highway at Branxton about 7.30am.
Police will allege checks revealed the vehicles were stolen.
Hunter Valley police arrived to find a white Toyota sedan on fire. Officers tried but were unable to stop another car - a black Nissan SUV, triggering a pursuit.
Fire and Rescue NSW officers attended and extinguished the car fire.
Police chased the SUV north along the New England Highway. The pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.
Inquiries led police to find an unattended SUV just before 8.30am on Thomas Mitchell Drive, Muswellbrook.
Police established a perimeter and searched the surrounding area, with assistance from PolAir and the Dog Squad.
A short time later, police found and arrested five teenage boys - one aged 16, two aged 15 and two aged 14. They were taken to Muswellbrook Police Station.

They were granted conditional bail to appear at a children's court on August 28.
The other three teenagers were released with a formal caution.
