Five storey 20-apartment block approved for Scunthorpe town centre

Plans for a 20-apartment block set over five floors in Scunthorpe town centre have been approved.

A brownfield site on Trafford Street is to be developed by Sheffield-based AD Future Houses in a £3 million investment. Sitting to the rear of Ongo’s 2018-built headquarters in Church Square, national architecture practice Falconer Chester Hall secured the consent for the contemporary design, which also includes a ground floor car park and cycle store.

The plot was vacant following the demolition of a two-storey former commercial building, described as of poor quality.

Robert Brym, associate director at Liverpool-based Falconer Chester Hall, is leading the project’s design and delivery.

He said: “The scheme is in close proximity to Scunthorpe High Street and creates a strong, interactive frontage, using recessed brick details and pushed back windows to add depth. Punctured windows and recessed brick panels create variation on the top floors and the resident and vehicle entrances provide street level frontage.”

The build-to-let proposal incorporates six ground floor car parking spaces and 20 cycle spaces.

“This is a confident, contemporary rendition of apartment living and offers a high quality residential development within Scunthorpe town centre,” Dawid Dowbusz, director of AD Future Houses, said. “We have focused on a highly energy-efficient design to minimise energy consumption and costs and, overall, the scheme sits very well on its site. I am looking forward to seeing it built and occupied.”

Work is expected to start this year.
