Meghan Markle is not going to King Charles' Coronation - and there are a number of crucial reasons behind that decision.
Prince Harry watching King Charles and Queen Camilla being crowned in Westminster Abbey on his own as Meghan is staying in California with their two children.
Buckingham Palace was pleased to announce that Harry will be there for this historic event, but Meghan will be at home with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The Palace said in a statement: "Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May.
"The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet."
Here is a look at some of the reasons why Meghan has decided not to attend the Coronation.
Tense confrontations
Relations between the Sussexes and the rest of the Royal Family are at an all-time low - and Meghan would have faced a number of awkward confrontations.
Harry and Meghan have spilled a lot of secrets and made accusations against family members in their Netflix docuseries.
One of the most awkward interactions that the Coronation would have thrown up is between Meghan and Sophie, the new Duchess of Edinburgh.
Sophie, the former Countess of Wessex, was duty-bound to curtsy to the Duchess of Sussex due to Meghan being of higher rank, but now this is not the case after receiving her new title.
Meghan "made it clear" she didn't need Sophie's help when the Queen suggested it and would instead rely on her new husband.
She is also not the biggest fan of Princess Kate and there was very little interaction between the pair at the late Queen's funeral last year.
Meghan upset Kate after she had given birth in 2018 by saying she must have 'baby brain' because of her hormones.
Harry claimed Kate admitted she made Meghan cry during a row over bridesmaids dresses before her wedding - and Charlotte burst into tears.
Now Harry will have to face the music alone when he bumps into those he has made claims against.
Archie's fourth birthday
Perhaps the biggest issue for the Sussexes was the date of the Coronation - as May 6 is also Archie's birthday.
Harry and Meghan would obviously have concerns about being away from their son on his special day.
Rather than leave Archie with a nanny or grandmother Doria Ragland, the couple have decided that he will enjoy his birthday celebrations at home with his mum.
Royal editor Omid Scobie tweeted: "I understand that Archie's fourth birthday (also on May 6) played a factor in the couple's decision.
"Expect it to be a fairly quick trip to the UK for Prince Harry, who will only be attending the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey."
Archie and Lilibet snubbed
Despite being the grandchildren of the new King, it is believed that Archie and Lilibet were not invited, with sources citing that the children are "very young".
Charles' accession to the throne means the youngsters, who lives in California with Harry and Meghan, have taken up their titles as Prince and Princess.
While their titles now match those of their cousins, it's believed that Archie, three, and one-year-old Lilibet haven't been asked to be present at the Coronation.
Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will be in attendance, but they are older than the Sussex kids and have been to other official events.
An insider told OK! that a major sticking point was how the Sussex children were to be included on the day.
But the source explained that their inclusion in the ceremony has "never been a bone of contention" because small children don’t attend royal events of this scale "due to restlessness and tantrums".
It makes sense that Meghan wouldn't want to leave her children alone, so has decided to stay while Harry flies back to the UK.
Meghan has less UK ties
It may seem an obvious point to make, but Meghan is American and has fewer ties to the UK than her husband.
Meghan has embraced all aspects of British culture during her relationship with Harry and is clearly very fond of the nation.
The Coronation is a huge part of British history, but Meghan should not be expected to give everything up to attend the ceremony, especially when it falls on her son's birthday.
The Duchess has previously spoken in glowing terms about her father-in-law, who walked her down the aisle on her wedding day in 2018.
Meghan is not bound by the same ties to the Royal Family as her husband, so it makes sense that she would not have as strong a desire to attend.
Popularity slump
The Sussexes were once loved by everyone but have slumped in popularity in recent years - and in particular the last few months.
Harry had a net positive rating of 51 percent before Megxit, which then fell to 20 percent immediately after and further still after the Oprah Winfrey interview.
Meghan's popularity has taken a similar hit, going from a net positivity of 20 percent in November 2019 to -11 in January 2020 and now stands at -46.
Most recently, the couple had a serious fall in popularity in the US, taking them lower than disgraced royal Prince Andrew.
According to a poll conducted by Redfield & Wilton for Newsweek on February 19, Harry was disliked by 42% of Americans, compared to 32% who said they liked him — with a 'net approval rating of -10.
The same poll saw Harry at 38 points in a December 5 poll showing a staggering 48 point drop in.
The Sussexes have also been subject to ridicule in America - with the most savage takedown coming on South Park.
While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex weren't specifically named, it didn't take a genius to work out who the fictional 'Prince and Princess of Canada' were supposed to be on their 'Worldwide Privacy Tour'.
Show creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are renowned for hilariously mocking a wide range of celebs, but some felt they went 'too far' this time with their merciless lampooning.
From Meghan's magazine covers to Harry's blue todger and even a candle scandal - there were a shedload of digs at the royals in the outrageous episode.
Meghan may have been concerned that her popularity would decrease even further if she attended the Coronation
