Five players who could leave Leeds United on loan this season

Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch is already underway as he begins to rebuild and mould the squad into how he'd like his team to play this season. This coming off the back of an overly disappointing campaign in which Leeds barely survived the drop on the final day of the season.

Brenden Aaronson was brought in for £25 million from RB Salzburg, with the young American slotting in to Leeds ' attacking midfield group - with the potential of Raphinha leaving the club this summer. But Marsch knows that he'll need to make many more moves if he is to build a Premier League side capable of avoiding the drop this upcoming season.

In some cases, players will be expected to make the step up to become regular first-team players. The likes of Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood will both likely become players Marsch will count on, after impressing down the stretch of the season.

But for others, it will be important that they just get game time - wherever that may be. It's hardly every a bad thing for a young player to go and play on loan - even if they struggle, it's first-team experience which might not be able to get in their current situation.

Here's five players at Leeds who could go out on loan this season.

Charlie Cresswell

Cresswell has already revealed that he does plan to discuss his contract with Marsch and Director Victor Orta, whilst admitting that could include him leaving on loan in order to play regular first-team football next season.

Speaking to the Press Association whilst away on England U21 duty, Cresswell revealed his plans: “That’s for me to discuss with Jesse and Victor [Orta, director of football] over the next few weeks and see where that takes me. But, ultimately, I would like to play more football, whether that be a loan or that be at Leeds. We’ll see.

"Marc [Guehi] and Conor [Gallagher] and Cameron [Archer] have been amazing on their loans. It’s all about taking the opportunity and really taking it with both hands. That’s what we are, we are footballers, that’s our job. We don’t want to be sitting around waiting to play, we want to be playing, whether that be lower leagues or the team we’re at."

A Championship move could make sense for all three parties.

Crysencio Summerville

Summerville could easily be in line for a bigger role this season - it all truly depends on how many options Jesse Marsch adds in the transfer window. But if Summerville is below three or four others in the pecking order - a loan move might make sense.

Still only 20 years old, Leeds don't need to rush anything with the talented Dutchman, who has made just six sporadic league appearances since joining the club in 2020.

Summerville brings lightning pace down the flanks, but is still a raw talent who needs regular game time at some level.

Lewis Bate

The midfielder begun entering the first-team picture at the end of last season, which could be an indication that he's in Marsch's plans for this campaign.

But Lewis Bate has already shown that he's a wildly talented football player at just 19 years old.

A ball-carrying midfielder who defends well and can pick out a pass, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Bate be sent on loan with a view to returning in January.

Cody Drameh

Leeds United appear destined to sign a new right back this summer. Aberdeen’s Calvin Ramsay is thought to be a target, while Barcelona’s Sergino Dest has also been linked.

However, one player currently in the squad that this could affect is Cody Drameh – who is set to return to Leeds for pre-season after a successful loan spell at Cardiff City. Drameh was awarded both player and young player of the year upon the conclusion of the campaign, despite only joining in January.

It's somewhat surprising to see Leeds being linked to right-backs when Drameh looks like he's ready to step in. But he could be sent out on loan again, before potentially returning to West Yorkshire in 2023.

Leo Hjelde

A talented centre-back who has been likened to Virgil van Dijk, Leo Hjelde remained in Leeds' youth teams last season. He's comfortably down the pecking order and not seen as a first-team option - he's a sure fire candidate for a loan move to see how he'd fare.

A towering defender, Hjelde impressed whilst on loan with Ross County 18 months ago, holding his own in the SPL aged just 17.
