Five people injured at Glasgow train station after escalator malfunctions

An escalator malfunction at a train station in Glasgow has resulted in multiple injuries.

Emergency services rushed to Argyle Street station at around 9am today after they received reports of the technical fault.

Five people were treated at the scene with four of those raced to hospital.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers received a report that an escalator had malfunctioned at Argyle station shortly after 9am this morning.

"Five people were treated for minor injuries and four of those were taken to hospital. The Office of Road and Rail have been notified of the incident.”

The train station is open as normal following the incident, however, the escalators are not in use and passengers need to use the stairs.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 09:14 to attend an incident at Argyle Street Station, Glasgow. Four ambulances were dispatched to the scene and four patients were transported to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.”

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
