Christmas time is always a period for having fun and not caring about the calories, or the morning after, however finding time to slip in a wee winter walk or two to enjoy with the family and clear the head is always a smart idea.
In between all of the rich food and drink at Christmas and the partying at Hogmanay, Boxing Day is the ideal time to slip out for a brisque walk to burn off some calories on Boxing Day.
Thankfully, in and around Edinburgh there are plenty of great hikes and trails that are ideal for exploring with your family and the dog and discovering some stunning winter scenery.

Belhaven Bay
The stretch of the now-iconic John Muir Way around Dunbar, and in particular the beach at Belhaven, was recently picked out as one of the UK's best winter walks in the study by holiday home operator, Verdant Leisure.
Just 45 minutes from Edinburgh, it's the ideal place for escaping the city and connecting with nature.
Speaking about the beach, the VL team said: "Found amongst the rolling hills of John Muir Country Park, Belhaven Beach is the ideal spot for a frosty beach saunter whilst taking in the scenic views of the Forth Estuary."
Arthur's Seat
Ok so it's an obvious one, but it's also fun to rediscover and let's face it, is there a better view anywhere else in the city?
With a hike that's not too unreasonable, and an ascent that's not too punishing, the rewards at the top are obvious but if you're lucky and catch a light peppering of snow it can be even more beautiful.
Gullane Bay
Heading to the Gullane Bents car park, you'll find this fun walk that offers a beautiful beach, grassy dunes and picturesque woodlands – just be sure to wrap up warm as it can be a little exposed.
The Pentlands
With dozens of different routes and a range of breathtaking scenery, the Pentlands are the ideal place to escape to for some peace and quiet. With incredible views of the surrounding areas, it can be particularly beautiful to walk around when it snows.
Water of Leith
The Water of Leith Walkway ranges over 12 miles and takes in the stunning Dean Village (another winter highlight) and of course, the Docks at Leith and are a great way to explore the south of the city.
