Five Nights at Freddy's 2 has officially secured a release date in theaters for December 5, 2025. This announcement comes as part of several strategic changes made by Universal and Blumhouse to their 2025 theatrical calendar. Notably, the release of M3GAN 2.0 has been pushed back from May 16 to June 27, while The Black Phone 2, originally set for June 27, will now premiere on October 17, 2025.
Aside from the Five Nights at Freddy's sequel, other films have also received release dates for the first time. Blumhouse's original horror-thriller, The Woman in the Yard, is scheduled to open on March 28, followed by Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse's thriller, Drop, on April 22.
The sequel to Five Nights at Freddy's was unveiled at CinemaCon in April without a specific release date. The first film in the franchise was a surprise hit, overcoming negative reviews and a simultaneous release on Peacock to become Blumhouse's highest-grossing opening, earning $78 million. It also emerged as the top horror title of the year, with a global box office revenue of nearly a million.
Emma Tammi is set to return as the director for the sequel, which is based on the popular video game created by Scott Cawthon. Cawthon serves as a producer alongside Jason Blum. Despite recent concerns about the horror genre's performance at the box office, particularly following the lackluster reception of Blumhouse's Exorcist reboot, industry analysts remain optimistic. The robust lineup of upcoming horror releases from Blumhouse and Universal further underscores this confidence.
With more updates expected in the future, fans of the horror genre and the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise have much to anticipate as these thrilling cinematic experiences continue to captivate audiences worldwide.
