Five people were killed on Tuesday in California's Catalina Island after a small plane crashed, local outlets reported.
The Avalon Sheriff Station received a S.O.S. notification from a cellphone, providing the coordinates of the crash.
Authorities responded to the location along with firefighters and search and rescue personnel, but the five people in the aircraft were pronounced dead at the scene.
There are no details so far regarding the identities of the victims, according to KTLA 5.
"Under a unified command, they were able to locate the wreckage of a twin-engine aircraft approximately one mile west of Catalina Island Airport," the Sheriff's Department added.
The plane in question was a twin-engine Beechcraft 95. It crashed shortly after taking off. There is no information either on the cause of the crash.
"The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate. The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will provide further updates," the FAA said in a statement.
