Five items to go in your child's Christmas Eve box that don't break the bank

For families of little ones, the tradition of Christmas Eve boxes has become fairly popular in recent years.

Alongside leaving out a glass of milk (or sherry) for Santa and carrots for Rudolph, this modern tradition is becoming a festive classic in its own right.

While a fairly modern trend for families in the UK, this festive tradition actually originated in Germany where they would open presents early on Christmas Eve.

The concept is now a fun way for parents to help get their kids into the festive spirit the night before Santa comes and it involves a small box of special gifts that they can enjoy.

With the tradition growing in popularity, you can now purchase the festive boxes themselves from retailers such as Hobbycraft, Amazon, Wilko, Asda and much more.

And, like the boxes themselves, the contents of the box don't have to be too expensive and you can fill them with some fun little gifts that won't break the bank.

Here are a few affordable and simple suggestions that you can fill your little ones Christmas Eve box with that won't eat into your budget.

1. Christmas PJs

Festive PJs are an absolute must-have for a lot of families, especially if they are a matching set. So, why not give your little one a new set to wear the night before Christmas?

You can purchase affordable pairs from the likes of Amazon, Primark, Sainsburys and more.

2. Hot chocolate

You can help your little one settle down for the night with a nice hot mug of hot chocolate that you can top with some whipped cream and sprinkles for extra sweetness.

The great thing about hot chocolate is you can pick up some small single packet sachets for as little as 60p in some major supermarkets and retailers, including B&M and Home Bargains.

3. A Christmas book

Once you have them settled into their new PJs, with a mug of hot chocolate, maybe you can help your little one settle down for Christmas by reading them a festive bedtime story.

You can pick up classics such as "'Twas The Night Before Christmas" from as little as £2 from the likes of The Works, WHsmith and more.

4. Christmas slippers/socks

To compliment your little ones brand new festive pair of PJs, you can add in some novelty socks or slippers to really compliment their nightwear.

With the weather getting a bit colder during the winter months, the fuzzier options will keep your little ones' toes warm during bedtime.

5. Soft teddy

A lovely way to end your little ones' Christmas Eve is by popping in an adorable soft toy, such as a plush reindeer, to send them off to sleep before the big day.

You can purchase affordable plush toys such as this adorable Reindeer Soft Toy from Argos for just £11.25.
