The Israel Defense Forces have confirmed that a total of five Israeli soldiers were killed in southern Lebanon on Saturday. The casualties occurred during combat operations in the region.
Earlier reports indicated that four soldiers from the same brigade, including a platoon commander, a deputy commander, a military rabbi, and a soldier, had lost their lives. A subsequent statement from the IDF revealed that a fifth soldier, a sergeant major, also perished in the same incident.
Since October 1, a total of 32 Israeli soldiers have been killed in southern Lebanon, according to IDF sources. Additionally, four other soldiers sustained severe injuries on Saturday and were promptly evacuated to a hospital for treatment.
The recent escalation in violence is part of Israel's ongoing conflict with the Iran-backed paramilitary group Hezbollah. Israel initiated a ground offensive in Lebanon earlier this month, targeting what it claims are Hezbollah strongholds.
The IDF's operations have resulted in significant civilian displacement, with over 1 million people forced to flee their homes. The Lebanese government reports that more than 1,800 individuals have lost their lives due to the conflict since mid-September.
The situation remains tense as both sides continue to engage in hostilities, raising concerns about further casualties and the humanitarian impact on the region.
