The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported on Thursday that five soldiers were tragically killed as a result of friendly fire during operations in Jabalya in northern Gaza. The incident occurred on Wednesday and involved four sergeants and one captain, all aged between 20 to 22, who were part of the Paratroopers Brigade. They were killed when a tank within the same battalion mistakenly opened fire, according to the IDF.
This unfortunate event follows the recent injury of Rear Admiral Yogev Bar-Sheshet in Gaza last week. Bar-Sheshet was wounded on the same day that five Israeli soldiers lost their lives in the Zeitoun area of Gaza. Among the casualties, four sergeants were killed by an explosive device.
With these latest casualties, the total number of Israeli soldiers killed in the Gaza conflict has now reached 278. Despite previous claims of clearing the area of Hamas, Israel has resumed fighting in northern Gaza.
