A 10-year-old boy has suffered life changing injuries and four others have been hospitalised after a group of mourners were hit by a car in the carpark of a church in Wandsworth.

The car, driven by a 72-year-old man, collided with the group in a private car park at a memorial service at Christ Church on Cabul Road, about 7.30pm on Sunday, before veering into a tree.

Police said the 10-year-old boy suffered serious injuries which are believed to be life-changing, and is currently in hospital receiving treatment. The rest of the group were also taken to hospital.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of motoring offences including causing serious injury. He has been bailed to a date in mid-September pending further enquiries.

Detective Constable Benjamin Simpson said: ‘’This is a very sad incident in which multiple pedestrians were injured in a private car park at a memorial service.

"We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who has any information to come forward and contact the police.’’
