Five household tech items backed by money-saving experts slashed in Amazon sales

The days between now and Prime Day are slowly ticking away, as Amazon prepares to launch huge discounts across its site this July. As the retail giant and fellow competitors prep to launch the price drops we've spotted some huge savings on products which are bound to help households make a saving.

Amazon Prime Day will officially run between July 11 and 12, where it'll take huge chunks of money off the usual retail prices for all Prime members, where those who pay for the £8.99 a month subscription will get first access to its bargain deals. That doesn't mean the best sales are held until then, as we've already come to find.

Including the Amazon Echo Dot which shoppers can buy for just £8.99 thanks to the retailer's duo discount code, a massive £46 off the popular home device. New shoppers can also get a free £15 to spend as the retailer rewards those ahead of the discount days.

Amid the lightning deals and discount codes there is a wave of items now reduced including products which are vital to helping shoppers reduce their costs at home.

Like the Amazon Smart Home Starter kit already reduced by £10 before the sale month has even started, on top of that it's a regularly backed product by other consumer teams, including Martin Lewis' team at Money Saving Experts and Which as it helps users track 'guzzling' electrical appliance costs.

As the countdown to Prime gets underway, we've rounded up five tech gadgets seen in the sales which are backed to help consumers make a decent saving.

Starting off with the Echo Dot and Amazon Home starter kit a product we've had on our radar which keeps track of household tech costs on anything from your day-to-day kettle to the microwave or plug-in humidifier. Its aim is to help users identify which appliances use up the most money in the background, also known as 'ghost' appliances.

The Money Saving Experts team rate this type of product on their site for those looking for 'thrifty energy-saving tips'. On the site, MSE say: "You'll need to measure your appliances one by one, as you're using them, and keep a record of the results so you can compare."

Next up is a dehumidifier from a brand we've picked ourselves, something which can regularly be found on Amazon. In the lead-up to the sales we've seen this Conopu one reduced to £40 but there is a wave of options to choose from, with up to £10 off similar devices.

During winter Martin Lewis shared his saving 'trick' for those looking to save money on heating bills, as households grabbled with condensation as an effect of not being able to put the heating on. During an episode of The Martin Lewis Podcast the consumer expert shared that the device is essential for those who couldn't run the dryer or put the heating on.

He said: "You pay roughly 34p per kw per hour. A fifth is 7p so you’re going to pay roughly 7p per hour to run a dehumidifier at 200w assuming it uses full power the whole time. Which is generally far, far cheaper than putting the heating on.

“If a dehumidifier does work for you it will definitely have lower electricity bills but of course you do have the initial capital outlay of buying a dehumidifier and see how that works for you.”

Now with the warm summer weather, many of the devices can be a huge relief when it comes to keeping air circulating, creating a cooler feeling and providing cooler air quality. It may help if you're feeling your home gets stuffy or muggy, especially at night.

Kindles have risen to popularity as one of Amazon's first-ever tech devices, a piece of tech which thousands of books into the hands of readers under one simple gadget. As the tech and ranges of Kindles have evolved so have the prices, which now range anywhere between £80 and £300.

This is where we spotted the Amazon Fire Tablet 7 for £64.99, £20 cheaper than the cheapest Kindle model, having previously seen the tip posted by the MSE team. Whilst we expect to see this price drop even further as Prime Day approaches it's worth noting for shoppers who have their eye on the device.

Anyone who buys a Fire 7 Tablet will also get three months of Kindle Unlimited for free.

A product which falls across beauty and tech, next up we have a pair of hair straighteners from Remington, another product that has been picked by us here at The Mirror and not any other team.

The ceramic plat stylers are currently slashed from an initial £79.99 to just £29, and it's all thanks to a specific section of the Amazon site. It goes to show the discounts which are 'quietly' available if you know where to look.

Amazon Outlet is a section which home various money-saving deals, the majority of which tend to be from overly stocked items. It's a section of the retailer's site many consumers including the MSE team have had their eye on for a while and regularly promote, in its Amazon buying tricks.

Last but not least we've got another Amazon subscription that users can get for free in the first month of use, and there's no bounty to keep signed up after the free trial.

The Audible deal is similar to what we've seen launch in the last few weeks with Prime Video and Music, a hack for anyone looking to sign up and get free content.
