Whether you fancy a cosy afternoon with a coffee and a cake, or an evening out tucking into a juicy burger with a pint of craft beer, here are five places that are worth paying a visit to Hoults Yard for.

These delicious handmade doughnuts have people travelling from all over the North East to come and pick them up from Hoults Yard.

Everything is made from scratch each morning at their Newcastle bakery, with a menu of indulgent flavours that changes monthly.

The most popular staples - jam-filled and vanilla custard-filled classics, as well as their signature raspberry glazed ring doughnut “The Homer” - are always available.

Other offerings change with the seasons, so customers can expect the likes of strawberry and peach flavours in the summer, and lots of spices and caramels in the autumn.

They also serve up gooey chocolate cookies and brownies, as well as coffee and hot chocolate to wash down all the sweet treats.

Cake Stories

The talented team behind this mouth-watering café in Hoults Yard’s iconic 1800s clock tower specialise in over 100 different types of cake.

After setting up their first venue in Jesmond back in 2015, the family-run business arrived in Hoults Yard with a view to providing a “wholesome” alternative to pubs and bars.

Some of the most popular cakes at Cake Stories include the Oreo Monster Cake, the Caramel Chocolate Smash, and current seasonal favourite the Cadbury Creme Egg Smash.

The bakery also serves up signature “Brownios” - the ultimate sweet sandwich featuring buttercream and a range of different fillings, including salted caramel, raspberry, and Lotus Biscoff, between two brownie shells dipped in chocolate.

Studio 28 Patisserie

Studio 28 was born out of a mission to bring high end chocolate and pastry to Newcastle, which is plain to see in the tempting treats on offer at this patisserie.

Owner Naomi Longfield, an artisan chocolatier and patisserie chef, creates “edible art” - from delicious cakes, tarts and brownies to chocolate bonbons filled with ganache or liquid caramel.

The café has recently brought out a range of artisan Easter eggs in a range of flavours, including honeycomb and salted caramel, which are also available to order online via their website.
