The horrifying murders of two Russian siblings in Pattaya -- followed by the discovery of a Thai family of three buried nearby -- have exposed disturbing failures across Thailand's institutions, from the family and social welfare system to policing, corrections and criminal justice.
The high-profile case, which Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul described as akin to "killing the entire nation" because of the damage to public confidence and Thailand's reputation as a safe destination, began with the disappearance of Russian siblings Diana Nazimova, 22, and Roman Nazimov, 17, on July 26.
