First words from Wout Weghorst after striker completes loan move to Manchester United

Wout Weghorst is confident he will play his part for Manchester United this season after completing his loan move.

The Dutch forward had been on loan at Besiktas from Burnley, but that spell has been terminated after Man United registered their interested and agreed a deal with the two clubs.

It is the club’s second signing of the January window, after Jack Butland’s arrival from Crystal Palace earlier in the month.

Weghorst struggled for goals in his previous campaign in the Premier League, managing just two goals in 20 appearances for Burnley, but has been in strong form for Besiktas this season.

He also delivered on the biggest stage for his country, scoring twice in the Netherlands’ dramatic World Cup quarter-final clash with Argentina in Qatar.

The 30-year-old will not be available for this weekend’s Manchester derby, but has vowed to hit the ground running when his chance does come.

“I feel privileged to be joining Manchester United,” Weghorst told the club’s official website.

“I’ve played against the club in the past and it’s a fantastic feeling to now have the chance to pull on the famous red shirt.

“I’ve seen United’s progress under Erik ten Hag this season and can’t wait to start playing my part in pushing the team towards its aims.

“Whatever happens in the next few months, I can promise to give everything to the club for as long as I am here.

“I thank everyone who has played a part in getting me to this stage, and now I am looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and getting involved straight away.”
