First trailer for follow-up to one of the best Godzilla movies ever made promises an epic, monster-filled sequel

Godzilla Minus Zero trailer still sees kaiju in New York City.

The first trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero is here and it looks epic. Set two years after the first movie, the brief teaser, which can be viewed below, features high stakes as the kaiju descends on New York City.

As confirmed at CinemaCon, the film will pick up two years after Godzilla Minus One and will once again focus on the Shikishima family as they face a new threat. And it looks like this will be no mean feat based on the end of the trailer, which sees the kaiju stomping through New York City... and heading straight for the Statue of Liberty.

Writer and director Takashi Yamazaki presented the footage at CinemaCon, explaining to the crowd that the film will "be a direct sequel" to Godzilla Minus One and "will continue to follow the story of the Shikishima family" (H/T The Hollywood Reporter).

"In this new film, an even deeper despair will descend upon Japan and the Shikishima family," he continued. "When faced with overwhelming and inescapable force, how do people fight back? The journey from Minus to Zero will not be an easy one."

Godzilla Minus One was released in 2023 and became one of Japan's highest-grossing films of all time, in addition to winning the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. It's worth noting that the studio behind both films is none other than Toho, the studio that quite literally created Godzilla.

Godzilla Minus Zero is set to premiere in Japan on November 3, before hitting the United States on November 6. For more, check out our list of the most exciting upcoming movies in 2026 and beyond.
