Excitement as 'cheap' continental grocery store opens in Netherfield

A first-time business owner has opened a new shop in Netherfield and is banking on a wide range of produce attracting customers. The new store is one of the only Baltic and Eastern European grocery stores in the area.

The ‘YES’ Continental Grocery store opened on April 1st. The store is on 28 Victoria Road in Netherfield.

Business owner, 30-year-old Mark Snetkov, originally from Latvia has spoken out about his excitement at opening the new grocery store. Mark who lives in Newark said: “This is the 4th day the store has been open, we haven’t been so busy because nobody knows it’s here yet.

“We sell a lot of European stuff, Polish, Romanian and Latvian, a bit of everything." Mark has opened the shop with Nils Ans.

The store sells homemade and fresh cakes everyday along with other everyday items.

Mark continued and spoke about why he chose Netherfield to have his new store. He said: “We did research and the town centre was expensive, this is a small family run business, I think there’s another Polish food store in the area but we have a bit of everything.

“I hope it gets busier in the next few months, I’ve had customers that have come in and told me how cheap everything is. We’ve been planning to open this shop for a year, I didn’t do business [studies] or anything like that, this is my first time doing something like this.”

Mary Collins, 74 is retired from Netherfield and says she will pop into the new store at some point. She said: “I always shop local. I haven’t been to town in ages but there’s no need for me to really unless I want clothes.

“I’m glad to hear that this new store is cheap and sells a bit of everything. I will go in at some point, it’s good to shop around.”

James Harrison, 35, a cook who lives in Netherfield is also pleased there’s a new store, he said: “I live not even 10 minutes away, it’ll be handy for me and others in the area. We do have quite a lot of shops in the area but it’s nice to see another one. I’m sure I will go in at some point and I wish them luck.”

The ‘YES’ Continental food store is open 9am-8pm on Monday-Saturday and 10am-6pm on Sundays.
