First pictures as Gabriel Jesus and Marquinhos join Arsenal training following busy summer transfer window

Gabriel Jesus was quickly put through his paces at Arsenal on Monday after sealing a £45m move from Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta’s leading attacking target this summer, the four-time Premier League winner signed a five-year contract in north London, with the Arsenal boss hailing his arrival as “tremendous”.

The Brazilian became the club’s fourth signing of a transfer window that could still get busier as Arsenal chase a deal for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez.

Marquinhos, who was also at London Colney, Matt Turner and Fabio Vieira had already arrived in another summer spree as Arteta continues to enjoy the backing of top brass at the Emirates Stadium.

Handed the no.9 shirt vacated by Alexandre Lacazette, Jesus will battle Eddie Nketiah for a starting berth through the middle of the Arsenal attack, confirming that was his preferred position despite often playing in wider areas under Guardiola at City.

“I’m a number nine,” said Jesus, when asked what Arteta had said to him about where he will play for Arsenal.

“I’m a striker and I thank God every day that I can be alive, and that I can play in three or four different positions - but I think my position is nine.”

Arsenal will travel to Germany to play Nuremberg in a pre-season friendly next week before jetting off to the USA for a tour involving games against Everton, Orlando City and Chelsea.
