First picture of man who died in Johnstone 'incident' as tributes paid to 'best and funniest guy ever'

A man who died following an alleged incident in Johnstone has been named locally.

Robbie McDowall, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency services raced to McDowall Street in the town at around 1.50am on Wednesday, June 1.

A 59-year-old woman was also taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with serious injuries. Her condition has been described as stable.

A 28-year-old man has now been arrested in connection with the death and serious injury.

Robbie's death has left his family and friends completely devastated.

His heartbroken cousin took to Facebook to pay tribute.

She said: "Can’t believe this is what it’s come to Robbie.

"You were the best and funniest guy ever. Shouldn’t have ended the way it did.

"Me and my mum and sisters are devastated but grateful for the time we got to spend with you. RIP cuz love you xx."

One friend commented: "So so sorry to hear this. Robbie was a brilliant guy as well. Knew him since primary school."

Another said: "Sorry for your loss. I used to hang about with Robbie when I was younger. Good guy he was."

Meanwhile, one friend added: "RIP Robbie bro. You were one in a million, absolutely gutted."

Police Scotland had earlier confirmed a man had been arrested in connection with the alleged incident.

A spokesperson said: “A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a man in Johnstone and the serious injury of a woman.

“The incident happened around 1.50am on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, in McDowall Street, Johnstone.

“A man, aged 40, was pronounced dead at the scene and a 59-year-old woman was taken to QEUH with serious injuries.”
