A teenage girl who died after falling 50ft from a cliff in the Scottish Highlands has been named as Alesha Wright.
The 18-year-old passed away after the incident which happened in Thurso on Monday night. An air ambulance and coastguard crews attended but the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 26-year-old man was also rushed to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. It is understood he is in a critical condition.
Alesha's death is currently being treated as "unexplained" and police say their enquiries into establishing the full circumstances are ongoing.
The youngster's sudden passing devastated loved ones who described her as a 'beautiful girl' with a 'heart of gold'.
Paying tribute, Stacey Louise Bridge said: “I am so so sorry for your loss. She was such a beautiful soul inside and out! I’m glad I had the chance to meet you beautiful. Fly high princess.”
Bridie Nicholson said: “Alesha was a beautiful girl with a heart of gold, she’ll be missed.”
Leah Marie said: “Fly high my gorgeous girl, love you always and now you can get your paint job done up there. Love you the world.”
Mellissa Stubbings said: “Fly high my beautiful. Love you forever and ever – will miss you forever. You touched all of our lives. Love you loads.”
Aylah-louise Taylor said: “Fly high gorgeous girl,” while Tieanna Rawlinson added: “Rest easy. Fly high angel.”
Nicole Louise Bridge said: “RIP gorgeous girl. I remember you living three doors down from me when you were little. Such a funny bright girl. Fly high.”
On Monday morning, just hours before her death, Alesha had posted a picture of herself on Facebook.
Lifeboat crews confirmed they were called to the scene shortly after 6pm on Monday night.
In a post on the Thurso Lifeboat team said: "The Y boat was beached and the two crew members quickly located the two casualties, one male and one female.
"The crew members attended to them until the arrival of a paramedic who was winched down from the Search and Rescue helicopter from Inverness.
"The young man was winched up by the helicopter to a waiting ambulance. The female casualty was transferred to a stretcher and taken by the ‘Y’ boat to The Taylors and then taken to Scrabster where she was transferred into the care of Police Scotland."
Alesha's mother commented on the post: "Thank you for what you did. She was my daughter who sadly died at scene. We are still waiting to find out how it happened."
A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed: “Around 5.50pm on Monday, July 11, 2022, officers were called to the Victoria Walk area in Thurso, following a report of a man and woman having fallen from a cliff.
“Emergency services and Coastguard attended but an 18-year-old woman had died. Her next of kin have been informed. Her death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.
“A 26-year-old man was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment."
