First picture of Connor Chapman accused of Elle Edwards' murder

This is the face of the man who is accused of Elle Edwards' murder.

Connor Chapman is standing trial at Liverpool Crown Court, charged with multiple offences, including the murder of the 26-year-old beautician. Miss Edwards was enjoying a night out with friends on Christmas Eve 2022 in the Lighthouse Pub, in Wallasey Village, when she was shot outside.

Police have previously stated she was not believed to be the intended target, as four men were also injured during the shooting. Chapman stands trial accused of the murder of Elle Edwards, and the attempted murder of Jake Duffy and Kieran Salkeld, three counts of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm to Harry Loughran, Nicholas Speed and Liam Carr.

Chapman also denies possession of a converted Skorpion submachine gun with intent to endanger life and possession of ammunition with intent to endanger life. The 23-year-old, of Houghton Road in Woodchurch, has already pleaded guilty to handling the stolen car allegedly used in the shooting.

That charge relates to a Mercedes A Class vehicle which he is said to have handled between December 23 and December 31 last year. The prosecution alleges the car was used by Chapman during the murder.

Co-defendant Thomas Waring, 20, of Private Drive, Barnston, Wirral, is charged with assisting an offender by disposing of the Mercedes, which is alleged to have been used by Chapman during the murder. He also denies possession of a Skorpion submachine gun.

Yesterday a jury of 12 people were sworn in for the case which is expected to last up to four weeks.

The case was opened by Nigel Power KC, prosecuting. Before the trial started, a list of names and places connected to the case was read out to jurors, who were also warned to alert staff if they "live on or are connected to the Beechwood or Ford Estate or the Woodchurch Estate in the Wirral".

Justice Goose said: "This trial concerns events which occurred on Christmas Eve outside a public house on the Wirral in Wallasey, called the Lighthouse. Shortly before midnight, a man fired a machine gun which killed a young woman and injured others.

"There has been significant publicity about the shooting. It’s important in this, as in all criminal trials, that you as jurors are impartial and not connected to people and places involved in these events."
