Police have formally identified a young man who tragically died after an industrial accident at a wind farm in Shetland.
Liam Macdonald was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency services were called at around 10.15am on Sunday, June 23.
A Health and Safety Executive probe has been launched to determine the circumstances of the 23-year-old’s sudden death at the Viking Windfarm project site.
The family of Liam, who is from Tain, Ross-shire, are being supported by officers, Police Scotland have said.
His sister Lauren has paid tribute to her baby brother by sharing an image of the duo as children.
She simply wrote: “Love you forever Liam Piam.”
The Tain and Fearn Free Church have launched a fundraiser for Liam’s family.
A statement from Police Scotland said: “Police today have confirmed the name of the 23-year-old man who died following an incident at the wind farm site in Shetland as Liam Macdonald.
“Liam was from the Tain area. The incident happened at around 10.15am on Sunday, 5 June, 2022 at the construction site in the Upper Kergord area.
“The Health and Safety Executive have been made aware and his family are being supported.
“Enquiries will continue to establish the full circumstances of what happened.”
A BAM Nuttal spokesman said: “We can confirm an incident at our Viking Windfarm project site on Shetland, today, has resulted in the tragic fatality of a colleague.
“Our condolences are with their family, and support is being made available to them and to members of the team.
“An investigation is under way and we’re working closely with our client and the authorities.”
SSE Renewables head of onshore projects Derek Hastings said: “We are devastated by today’s news and our thoughts and condolences are with the family, friends, and colleagues of the young man who tragically died.
“We are working closely with BAM Nuttall and the relevant authorities to understand what happened.”
