First National Express coach services run from new Broad Marsh Bus Station next week

Coach services are to start operating from the new Broad Marsh Bus Station from next week, Nottingham City Council has confirmed. With National Express fitting out their customer service centre inside the new building, their long-awaited first coach will now depart from their new facility in Canal Street on Tuesday, June 14.

This ends years of their makeshift bus route that started from Station Street. The council has said that passengers will benefit from significantly improved facilities at the new bus station, including a 24/7 facility to cater for 24/7 bus and coach services, plenty of seating and 24/7 security services.

The bus station is on the ground floor below the new Broad Marsh car park, which includes 1,200 spaces including charging points for electric cars and disabled parking, contactless payments at the barriers and a smart traffic light system to help find a space.

City Council Leader, Councillor David Mellen, said: “This fantastic new bus station is a far cry from the old one which was an unwelcoming place to start or finish your journey. For visitors coming to Nottingham with National Express, it’s the first place they see and this bright, modern facility gives a much better impression of our city.

“It’s an impression that continues with the great new pedestrian friendly areas surrounding the building, and the facilities inside are first-class. I’m delighted that National Express are starting to run services from the new bus station next week, meaning it becomes an important transport hub connecting Nottingham to destinations across the UK. It’s another great step forward for the huge improvements we’re undertaking in this part of the city.”

Ed Rickard, service delivery director at National Express UK, said: “We very much welcome the improved connectivity that the new Broadmarsh Bus Station will bring to Nottingham, providing state-of-the-art facilities for our passengers’ convenience and comfort. As demand for affordable and reliable travel grows we’re building back our network and it’s great to be able to serve our customers in Nottingham with frequent intercity services at great value fares.”

The bus station, opening months later than expected, was due to open in autumn 2021 to coincide with the new 1,200-space Broadmarsh car park, which opened on November 1 last year. The entire build cost around £50m.
