It is expected that the First Minister of Northern Ireland, Paul Givan, will resign on Thursday afternoon.
The news has come as a shock, with the DUP expected to give a statement at around 3pm confirming the news.
According to Belfast Live, when asked about the speculation, DUP Agriculture Minister Edwin Poots said people will have to "wait and see what happens".
The MLA said: "Well if that's what you're hearing that's what you're hearing, but if it's going to happen there will be an announcement."
He added: "I think you'll just have to wait and if that happens today, then that will be broken today, but you'll just have wait and see what happens during today if that happens or not."
DUP politician Mr Givan took the role as the First Minister of Northern Ireland in June 2021, replacing Poots who had only been in the role since May of that year.
BelfastLive add that if Givan does indeed to resign as First Minister, Sinn Féin Deputy First Minister Michelle O'Neill is automatically removed from her post due to the joint nature of their office.
Both parties must then nominate a member to each position within seven days.
If either party declines to re-nominate, a properly functioning Executive cannot be formed and the UK government assumes a legal responsibility to call an Assembly election within a reasonable period.
However, an election is set to take place on May 5 regardless.
