If you've visited the coast in Ogmore you'll be well-aware of the long-standing hotel on the outskirts of Bridgend known as the Best Western Heronston Hotel. You might be familiar with the older-looking building that has a huge heron on the side, as it’s pretty hard to miss.
But while the business has been a cornerstone of hundreds of people's drive to Ogmore, it has just had a huge revamp. The famous heron will soon be gone as the outside will soon be done up to match the swish design that has been introduced to the inside of the hotel.
Step inside, and it’s looking truly glam with its unrecognisable rooms and brand new restaurant. Everything looks super Instagrammable, which is bound to draw in anyone who loves taking a snapshot of all things aesthetically pleasing when they’re out for the day.

To start with, the reception area in particular has been transformed. What was once a cosy area filled with warm colours has now been switched out for an effortlessly sophisticated space with its fresh, bright layout and modern furniture that offers the wow-factor.
The bedrooms are also looking extra chic, with a much lighter look. Continuing with the contemporary feel, almost everything from the TV to the décor is different- bringing some real 2023 energy into the mix.
And it’s safe to say that their Ibis Court Suite which hosts events has also had a major “glow-up.” Before getting a complete makeover, this room was still very much in keeping with the other traditional themes throughout the hotel but is now bursting with character and looks like the perfect place to have a party.
The curved ceiling now looks like it has been truly brought to live as the trendy grey colour sweeps across the room and makes the whole place feel brighter, airier and far more spacious. But what really stands out is the restaurant, that comes with its own wine fridge.
Discussing the hotel’s complete revamp, the general manager Carolyn Powell said: “It was a long process deciding what kind of designs we wanted to go for.
"We had different designers come in to help us with inspiration and come up with the best thing for us. We started off by doing one room and we did that in 2020 so when we went into lockdown in March it held things up a bit.
"We love how it looks now and there's loads of new features so people can make the most of the different spaces. But the main entrance to the hotel will have- I think the biggest impact on people because at the moment it looks like it always has but once that's done it's going to look really modernised.
"There's still some work to do but we have done loads on the inside... Prior to this we were probably the ugly duckling and now we're the swan. If Covid's taught you anything it's that you have to adapt to change.
"I think sometimes businesses think that if they are traditional, they have to stay traditional but that is not always the case. You can break out and be different and sometimes it comes down to how much people have to invest but were lucky that we secured the funds from our company before Covid happened and they continued with it, and it's good sometimes to know that to grow you have to invest."
