First look inside the new waffle and shake bar that's opened in Stockport suburb

If you’ve driven through the centre of Cheadle Hulme this past week, you’ve probably noticed something is a little different. Shining like a beacon, a bright yellow neon sign confirms a new restaurant has landed in the suburb.

The area isn’t short of places to eat and drink - just across the road there’s Gusto Italian, Zumuku Sushi and Inventory. However, it has lacked a dedicated space for waffles, burgers and shakes.

Cue Shakedown, the new waffle and shake bar on Station Road, serving up signature burgers, milkshakes, sides and sweet treats. Already well-established in Withington and Wythenshawe, Shakedown owners wanted to move into Cheadle Hulme to become part of its vibrant hospitality community, a place where “locals know good food when they taste it”.

Speaking about the new opening, Marketing Manager Lisa Symonds said: “We've wanted to move into Cheadle Hulme for a long time now and we're so happy to have finally arrived.

“Our VIP pre-opening event on September 9 was a big success and it was great to meet local families and have them try some complimentary burgers and shakes. We look forward to becoming a part of the Cheadle Hulme community and serving diners the best burgers in the city”

We popped down this week to take a tour of the new burger bar, which stands out for its bold yellow and black colour scheme, neon signs and postcode stickers. Booth seating is lit by overhead halo ring lights, while bright yellow stools line the window, giving diners a chance to watch the world go by as they wait for their order.

Burgers include the Zesty Chicken and Beefed Up! (Manchester Evening News)

Home to the famous Beefed Up! - a signature burger, complete with top-secret seasoning, there’s plenty to get stuck into here. Ranging from £7 to £10.50 for their larger burgers, there’s also the American Fried - tender chicken fillet, melted cheese, red onions and lettuce with Stateside sauce, and the Zesty Chicken variation, which comprises buffalo sauce-coated chicken fillet, cheese, red onions and sauce.

As well as juicy burgers, Shakedown also serves up sides like cheesy bites, hash browns, mozzarella dips and their very own Not’cho Nachos with melted American cheese, salsa and fiery jalapenos. Of course, a burger isn't complete without a side of chips, and here you can try their skin-on fries with any choice of sauce.

There's more than 10 shakes to choose from at Shakedown in Cheadle Hulme (Manchester Evening News)

On the sweet side of things, there’s a selection of indulgent waffles like Cookie Butter with Lotus Biscoff and Nutella, and Roadblock covered with Oreos, Smarties, Kinder Bueno, Nutella and white chocolate sauce. You can also order your very own made-to-order waffle with two toppings of your choice for £6.

If you still have room left, it’s worth trying Shakedown's selection of shakes - of which there's 11 variations to choose from. Specials include Manchester Bee with honeycomb pieces, syrup and sauce, and Terry White with chocolate orange, Kinder Bueno White and chocolate sauce.

Shakedown is open now, you can sit in or order online for click and collect. It’s open 11.30am-10pm Monday through Thursday, 11.30am-11pm on Fridays and 5-11pm on Saturday and Sundays.
