First look at gym bound Sam Heughan in Channel 4 drama Suspect

Outlander's Sam Heughan gets fit for new crime thriller Suspect in these first look pictures.

Sam, 42, who is best known as Jamie Fraser in the hit Starz series Outlander alongside Caitriona Balfe, will star as godfather Ryan in the series which sees James Nesbitt play veteran detective Danny Frater.

Danny turns up at a hospital mortuary for what he thinks is a routine ID check on a young woman’s body, but gets a devastating shock when the corpse turns out to be his estranged daughter, Christina (played by Imogen King).

Sam who graduated Glasgow's Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, now the Scottish Conservatoire of Scotland, will thrill viewers in the new eight-part crime thriller Suspect , which is an adaptation of the original Danish series Forhøret by Christoffer Boe and Miso Film.

The series also stars Joely Richardson ( The Tudors, Nip/Tuck ), Anne-Marie Duff ( Sex Education, Shameless ), Richard E. Grant ( Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Hang Ups ), Ben Miller ( Professor T, Bridgerton ).

In the series, Danny learns about his daughter’s descent into delinquency.

He is forced to confront his own failings as a father whilst struggling to make sense of a mass of contradictory testimony and circumstantial evidence, and he must decide who, if anyone, is responsible for Christina’s death and what he’s going to do about it.

Sam who will be going live on Instagram to talk about tequila tonight, also shared the image of himself alongside James Nesbitt on his social media and wrote:" Everyone is a suspect."
