First-look at Anya Taylor-Joy in new Dior Beauty Christmas campaign

Anya Taylor-Joy looks ethereal in all-gold in a first-look at Dior Beauty’s new Christmas campaign.

The 28-year-old American-English actress - known for her roles in The Queen’s Gambit and The Witch - has served as a fashion and beauty ambassador for the French multinational luxury fashion house since 2021.

She, along with Italian actress, model and fellow Dior ambassador Deva Cassel, 20, are centre stage in the upcoming campaign, The Dior Ball of Dreams, due to officially launch on October 18.

A synopsis of the campaign reads: “The clock strikes 12. Versailles awakens, as if by magic, for an enchanted holiday and an extraordinary grand ball by Dior. At the majestic Royal Opera, the first notes play across this dreamscape. The curtain depicting the Sun King's symbols rises: let the celebration begin.”

Teasing that “for one night, magic prevails”, an accompanying campaign film will see principal dancers Hugo Marchand and Seo Yun open the dance, giving way to a swirl of extraordinary costumed revelers who follow in their footsteps, until the first glimmers of dawn.

While Taylor-Joy - who has been married to musician Malcolm McRae, frontman of the rock band More, since 2022 - describes herself these days as “fully obsessed” with fashion, this wasn’t originally the case growing up.

Born in Miami and raised in both Argentina and in London, fashion was originally about her siblings’ “hand-me-downs”.

She explained to WWD: “I wore a lot of the hand-me-downs of my brother and sister, and it was always just something to go outside, ride horses or play in the dirt. So it was very functional for me.

“And then through the course of working in film, I really fell in love with it, because I could see how instantly my body would react to becoming another character when I finally found their clothes. It really is a sense of power and identity.”
