First Lady Jill Biden has reportedly been privately urging President Biden to stop the war in Gaza, according to a conversation the president had with one of the attendees at a White House meeting with the Muslim community on Tuesday.
A guest at Biden's meeting told the president that his wife disapproved of him attending the event over the Israel-Hamas war. The New York Times reported that Biden replied that he understood and mentioned that the first lady had been urging him to 'Stop it, stop it now.'
The Times cited Salima Suswell, the founder of the Black Muslim Leadership Council, who witnessed the exchange and found it 'striking' that the first lady felt strongly about the conflict. Biden hosted a small event at the White House with Muslim administration staffers and leaders of the Muslim community, who also joined the president for a dinner to break the fast during the holy Islamic month of Ramadan.
President Biden faced protest votes in the Wisconsin Democratic primary, with a notable percentage opting for the 'uninstructed' option rather than voting for him. In Connecticut and Rhode Island, significant percentages of voters also chose 'uncommitted' options.
During an appearance on 'CBS Mornings,' the first lady addressed questions about Biden's re-election campaign, disputing recent polling results that showed him trailing former President Trump in several 2024 swing states. She expressed confidence in Biden's prospects, stating that once people focus on their choices, it will be evident that Joe will win the election.
A Wall Street Journal poll released Tuesday indicated that Trump is leading Biden in key battleground states, with Biden only tied in Wisconsin and not securing leads in other surveyed states.
