The inaugural Local Women Magazine Sports Awards will honour inspirational women from various sporting fields including football, hockey, camogie, LGFA, rugby, athletics, golf and equestrian, to name but a few.

Sponsored by fuel provider Go, the awards are another ground breaker for Ireland's first and only female sports publication, Local Women Sports Magazine.

The gala awards at The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Belfast will simultaneously raise money for The Mary Peters Trust, which aids the development of young sportspeople, and celebrate the first birthday of the magazine.

The prestigious awards ceremony will be hosted by UTV sports personality and hockey ace Ruth Gorman who joins a star-studded judging panel.

Judges include former Northern Ireland women's captain Gail Redmond MBE, who works at the Irish Football Association (IFA) as women's development manager, Ulster Rugby women and girl's rugby development manager, Eliza Downey, Dr Katie Liston, former elite athlete and senior sports lecturer at The University of Ulster, BBC sports presenter Nicola McCarthy, Local Women Magazine columnist Gemma Garrett, Zoe Watson from Belfast Live, camog Catriona Channing and sales manager for GO, Laura Loughran.

Laura Loughran from GO is excited about the forthcoming awards. Fronting the launch at the National Stadium at Windsor Park, Laura said:

"GO is proud to sponsor the Local Women Magazine Sports Awards. We nurture and admire innovation and we are delighted that women in sport are being honoured in an all-female awards evening.

We certainly have world class female athletes in our country so the standard of entries will be exceptional. Our judges are sporting royalty, too, and we are humbled that they are giving up their time to promote and celebrate women in sport.

We encourage people to nominate their favourite, inspirational female sporting personalities and to attend the glamorous award ceremony."
