Health officials have confirmed the first death from a new Covid strain as countries across the globe record more cases.
An unnamed elderly man has passed away in Thailand, Dr. Supakit Sirilak, director-general of the Medical Sciences Department said. He said there have been 27 cases of the new Arcturus variant detected in the country and the deceased was "an elderly foreigner" with underlying health conditions.
He explained: "His death, therefore, may not directly reflect the severity of this subvariant but rather its impact on other risk factors”.
