'Fireworks' - National media deliver verdict on Nottingham Forest's draw with Man City

Nottingham Forest extended their unbeaten home league run to eight matches with a late 1-1 draw against Manchester City.

Chris Wood netted his first goal in red with Forest's only shot on target to secure an impressive point against a City side looking to return back to the top of the table. City had dominated proceedings for much of the 90 minutes with Erling Haaland missing two big chances to put the game beyond doubt after Bernardo Silva's first half opener.

Forest are now up to 13th in the table and five points clear of the bottom three. Here is how the national media reported a big day at the City Ground.

Kyle Walker said Manchester City's performance was "not acceptable" after they missed the opportunity to return to the top of the Premier League with a draw against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

Chris Wood's late goal cancelled out Bernardo Silva's rocket from 20 yards, with the visitors missing chances in abundance to put the game to bed.

"We've dropped two points here," said Walker. "The chances we had in front of goal - we need to be better, [with] the calibre of players we've got up front we should be scoring them and putting them away."

Erling Haaland volleyed against the crossbar and ballooned the rebound over the top after Aymeric Laporte's header was brilliantly saved by Forest keeper Keylor Navas.

But Morgan Gibbs-White's fizzed cross was tapped in at the far post in the 84th minute for Wood's first Forest goal.

Fireworks had been strategically placed by somebody around the back of Trent Bridge. You know, just in case. And off they went, filling the Nottingham air just as Pep Guardiola could have been forgiven for turning Manchester City’s dressing room blue with a rocket to his attackers.

Arsenal will not believe their luck. How this ended how it ended, how that fan was able to confidently take a match to his pyrotechnics, is almost unfathomable.

Erling Haaland slammed one gimme on to the bar and booted a follow-up into the second tier. Phil Foden fell over his own feet when clean through. Aymeric Laporte found the midriff of Keylor Navas from a free header six yards out. City had enough to win this four times over and yet they did not.

Manchester City lost ground on fellow Premier League title challengers Arsenal after being held to a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest as Chris Wood's late leveller cancelled out Bernardo Silva's sublime opener.

A moment of solo brilliance from Silva in the 41st minute looked to be sending City back to the summit, but for an impressive second-half resurgence from Steve Cooper's side, who converted their only shot on target with six minutes remaining.

Earlier in the day, Arsenal were forced to come from behind twice to beat Aston Villa, usurping City in the race for the title, and the Gunners now hold a two-point advantage at the top with a game in hand.

Nottingham Forest delivered another twist in the Premier League title race as Chris Wood’s late goal saw them snatch a 1-1 draw against Manchester City at the City Ground.

City looked prime to return to the top of the table after Arsenal’s lunchtime win over Aston Villa when they went ahead through Bernardo Silva’s first-half stunner.

But a string of missed chances after the break, including two from Erling Haaland, proved costly and Wood’s first goal for Forest in the 83rd minute saw them take a point.

The draw, which should have been off the table for the hosts, means the Gunners now hold a two-point lead over City at the top of the table with a game in hand.

“Champions of Europe, you’ll never sing that,” came the barbs from the Nottingham Forest supporters before and after their side snatched an unlikely draw that could have ramifications for Manchester City’s hopes of recording a third successive Premier League title. There are, of course, still three months to run in the title race and Arsenal, who are two points clear with a game in hand over City, still have to visit the Etihad Stadium in April. But Pep Guardiola stared at the floor as he headed down the tunnel alone with his thoughts, doubtless replaying uncharacteristic misses by Erling Haaland and Phil Foden in his mind after watching his players pass up the opportunity to return top of the pile.

City dominated the game, completing almost three times as many passes as Forest. They registered 23 shots, six on goal, one of which Bernardo Silva rifled in first time from the edge of the box to give the visitors the lead four minutes before the interval. At that point it felt almost inevitable that City would go on to secure victory but then Foden fluffed his lines early in the second half, his loose touch putting paid to his hopes of doubling their lead, before Haaland rattled the bar and skied the rebound after Keylor Navas parried a vicious effort by Foden. The Forest substitute Chris Wood tapped in to score his first Forest goal and equalise with his side’s only shot on target.
