Firefighters remain at scene of major blaze at Scottish industrial estate

EMERGENCY services remain at the scene of a fire at an industrial estate near Livingston.

Firefighters were called to Brucefield Industrial Estate in West Lothian at around 1pm on Saturday following reports of a huge blaze.

Nine fire engines were sent to the scene, as police locked down several roads in the area, and nearby residents were told to remain in their homes and to close their windows and doors while the incident was brought under control.

No injuries were reported.

Footage shared on social media showed black smoke billowing into the sky with the building engulfed in flames as people as far away as Fife reported seeing the blaze.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed that two crews have remained at the scene nearly 24 hours later to ensure the area is safe.

Police have since reopened the closed roads and residents were told they no longer need to keep their windows and doors closed.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “We still have two appliances in attendance at Livingston’s Brucefield Industrial Estate, with crews working to ensure the area is safe.

“However, people no longer need to avoid the area and nearby homes no longer need to keep windows and doors closed.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Emergency services remain in attendance following a fire at Brucefield Industrial Park, Hutton Square, Bellsquarry, Livingston, which was reported around 1.35pm on Saturday, December 7, 2024.

“The fire has been contained by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, who are continuing to monitor the premises. There is no risk to the wider public.

“Roads in the surrounding area have since been re-opened. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
